A classically trained guitar player, Donnacha had always repaired instruments for himself and for friends. After moving to New York City from Dublin, Ireland, he put his skills to work and became the Repair Shop Manager at Sam Ash Music on 48th Street. After working there for several years, he founded Barkwood Guitars when he began building guitars as well. In 1997, Donnacha moved Barkwood Guitars to Los Angeles, California where he has worked for such companies as ESP Guitars, Schecter Guitar Research, Lace Music Products, True Tone Music and Sam Ash Music, Hollywood.
Over the past several years, Donnacha has taught guitar building at the California Guitar Craft Academy at Musicians Institute Hollywood and was invited to be a guest lecturer on Guitar Design and Development at Trinity College Dublin in 2001.
In 2004, he received his Masters in Music and Media Technology at Trinity College Dublin and he holds a Bachelors degree in Mathematics.
